This Guy

As I was watching Olympic coverage this afternoon, they showed a Spanish swimmer who jumped into the pool prior to the gun, disqualifying himself. The emotions that he showed, believing that he'd just ruined his chance to compete in the Olympics, were heartbreaking. He got out of the pool frustrated and crying, gathered up his clothes (still crying) and left the pool deck. I mean, I wanted to jump through the television and land in Rio to give him a hug.

The good news is that he didn't end up false starting! It was determined that a noise caused him to jump early and he was cleared to compete. The crowed fully embraced this Spaniard, and why wouldn't you at this point, as he swam the race. He finished last in the heat of unseeded swimmers. These are the heats where it's likely the only swim they'll get in the Olympics is this one, which is why it's understandable that he got so upset. Don't worry, Miguel Duran! You won us all over!
